Dartmouth Admits 2,176 Applicants to the Class of 2020

The total number of applicants totaled 20,675 for the year, resulting in an overall admission rate of 10.5 percent.

Brown Admits 2,250 to the Class of 2020

brown logoBrown announced today that it admitted 2,250 students to the Class of 2020.  

Applications totaled 32,380 for the year, resulting in an overall admission rate of 9 percent.  An additional 1,000 students were waitlisted.

The target size for the class is expected to be 1,665.

Princeton Admits 1,894 Applicants to the Class of 2020

princeton logoPrinceton University announced today it admitted 1,894 students to the Class of 2020.  

Applications totaled 29,303, resulting in an overall admission rate of 6.5 percent.  An additional 1,237 candidates were offered a place on the waitlist.

The target size for the class is anticipated to be 1,308 students.

Columbia Admits 2,193 Applicants to the Class of 2020

Columbia University announced today it admitted 2,193 applicants to the Class of 2020.

A total of 36,292 applications were received, resulting in an overall admit rate of 6.0 percent.

Cornell Admits 6,277 Applicants to the Class of 2020

A total of 44,966 applications were received this year, resulting in an overall admit rate of 14 percent. An additional 4,572 students were offered a place on the waitlist.

The targeted size of the Class of 2020 is 3,275.

University of Pennsylvania Admits 3,661 Applicants to the Class of 2020

upenn logoThe University of Pennsylvania announced today that it admitted 3,661 applicants to the Class of 2020.  

A totla of 38,918 applications were received, a record, resulting in an overall admit rate of 9.4 percent.

The targeted size of the Class of 2020 is 2,445 students.

Hamilton Admits 1,317 Applicants to the Class of 2020

hamilton logoHamilton College announced today that it admitted 1,317 applicants to the Class of 2020.  

A total of 5,230 applications were received this year, resulting in an overall admission rate of 25 percent.

Hamilton anticipates a target class size of 480 students.

Whether you’re just beginning to think about your student’s college plans, or you’re deep in the throes of SAT/ACT prep, school research, filling out the FAFSA, etc, you already know that the college application is stressful for everyone involved.

Even more so when you turn to the black hole of the Internet for guidance. Sure, there are a lot of really knowledgeable people sharing really great information (you’re reading some of it right now!) but this is the Internet, and unfortunately for you, someone doesn’t need to be really knowledgeable to share their thoughts or advice. And that leaves you, a well-intentioned parent, on the receiving end of some really BAD information.
We’ve seen it all and once we stopped screaming at our computer screens (true story) we decided it was our duty to call out that bad advice, break down why it is so wrong, and share the truth so you can guide your students effectively.

So let’s get to it, shall we? Here are the four most egregiously bad/wrong/misguided/awful pieces of advice we’ve found on applying to college:

Swarthmore Admits 963 Applicants to the Class of 2020

Swarthmore College LogoSwarthmore announced today that it admitted 963 applicants to the Class of 2020.  

A total of 7,717 applications were received this year, resulting in an overall admission rate of 12 percent.

Swarthmore anticipates an entering class size of 420 students.

University of Virginia Admits 9,358 Applicants to the Class of 2020

A total of 32,426 applications were received this year, resulting in an overall admission rate of 29 percent.

Vanderbilt Admits 2,526 Regular Decision Applicants to the Class of 2020

vanderbilt logoVanderbilt University reported today that it admitted 2,526 applicants to the Class of 2020 under regular decision.

A total of 28,700 regular decision applications were received, resulting in a regular decision admission rate of 8.8%.

Stanford Admits 2,063 Applicants to Class of 2020

Stanford logoStanford announced today that it admitted 2,063 applicants to the Class of 2020.  

A total of 43,997 applications were received this year, resulting in an overall admission rate of 4.7 percent.

Barnard Admits 16 Percent of Applicants to Class of 2020

barnard logoBarnard announced today that 16 percent of applicants were admitted to the Class of 2020.  

Overall, 7,071 applications were received for the year. This year's admission rate marks a record low in the college's history and is down from 19.5 percent last year.

University of California Revamps Personal Statement Section of Application

ucBeginning this fall, the University of California will replace the two personal statement prompts in the UC Application with short answer questions that students can choose from.  

Freshman applicants will now choose four out of eight "personal insight" questions to answer.  Each is limited to 350 words and will have equal weighting.

The new questions will be available August 1st as part of the fall 2017 application.
