Brown Eliminates SAT/ACT Essay Requirement

washpostBrown will no longer require the essay component to the SAT and ACT.  

This is one of several initiatives taken by the institution to expand access to low income families.

For applicants planning not to take the SAT/ACT essay, inclusion of a graded paper from a humanities or social science class is recommended.

Brown Admits 7.2 Percent of Applicants to the Class of 2022

A total of 35,438 applications were received for the year, up 8 percent.

Class of 2022 Early Decision and Early Action Notification Dates

student questionsHere's our latest list of early decision and early action dates for the Class of 2022.  As many of you know, schools often post results in advance of their "official" notification dates, so we've compiled the most recently updated dates for you here where available, as well as last year's notification dates for reference.   

Case Western is set to announce today at 8pm ET (both EDI and EA).  Colorado College (EA), Kalamazoo and the University of Michigan are on tap for Wednesday 12/20.

With ED/EA decisions released for virtually all of the schools we track, we'll call this 38th update our final one this season.

Brown Admits 738 Early Decision Applicants to the Class of 2022

brown logoBrown accepted 738 applicants to the Class of 2022 under early decision.  

The total number of early decision applicants was 3,502 this year, up 10 percent and resulting in an early admission rate of 21%.

This list includes several popular private and public schools, including Barnard, Boston College, Boston University, Brown, Carnegie Mellon, Claremont McKenna, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Davidson, Duke, Emory, Emory (Oxford), Georgetown, Georgia Tech, Hamilton, Harvard, Harvey Mudd, Johns Hopkins, Middlebury, MIT, Northwestern, Notre Dame, NYU, Pitzer, Pomona, Princeton, Rice, Scripps, Trinity College, University of Georgia, UMass Amherst, University of Pennsylvania, University of Virgina, Vanderbilt, Wesleyan, William & Mary, Williams and Yale. 

Stanford and the University of Chicago don't plan to release statistics until the end of the admissions cycle.

Colleges Where Interviews are Required or Strongly Recommended (Class of 2022)

interviewWith the fall application cycle now in full swing, it's important to keep an eye on interview requirements for the schools on your list—especially if they're looking for evidence of demonstrated interest.  

To make this easier for you, we've compiled a list of popular schools where interviews are required or strongly recommended, along with the degree to which the institution considers demonstrated interest as part of the evaluation.  

In cases like Hillsdale College where interviews are highly recommended and demonstrated interest is very important, it's a good bet than an interview is worth your time.  On the flip side, if interviews are optional and demonstrated interest isn't considered, booking an interview is less critical.  The devil is in the details, so to help you figure out your strategy we've also included a link to each listed school's interview policy.  Do keep in mind that interview requirements may often vary by major.

U.S. News & World Report Posts 2018 College Rankings

usnwr bestcollegesU.S. News & World Report released their 2018 college rankings earlier today.  Over 1,800 schools were covered nationwide and evaluated on multiple measures of academic excellence and outcomes to produce the final rankings.

Princeton retains sole posession of the top spot for National Universities, and Williams College tops the list of Liberal Arts Colleges.

Forbes Releases 2017 College Rankings

forbesForbes released its list of top ranked colleges for 2017. 

The Forbes ranking methodology is driven by student experiece (20%), post-graduate success (35%), student debt (20%), graduation rate (12.5%) and academic success (12.5%).  

At the top of this year's list are:

  1. Harvard University
  2. Stanford University
  3. Yale University
  4. Princeton University
  5. MIT
  6. Caltech
  7. University of Pennsylvania
  8. Duke University
  9. Brown University
  10. Pomona College

Brown Admits 2,722 to the Class of 2021

brown logoBrown announced today that it admitted 2,722 students to the Class of 2021.  

Applications totaled 32,724 for the year, resulting in an overall admission rate of 8.3 percent.

Brown anticipates an incoming class of roughly 1,665.

Brown Admits 695 applicants to the Class of 2021
